Write your Championship/s roster here with possible original drafted team and a brief story of how it happened. What was the turning point? How much did "Lady Luck" had to do with it? What did you learn, really, in your quest to your trophy?
Dr X relives that August summer night and explains his thoughts on the Maniaxs official keeper league's draft. Whom did he take where and why? Which pick turned out to be a bust? Which one over achieved? His sleeper pick? The key Waiver Wire addition? What was this team built on? HOW the Keeper was won...
A Fantasy Football Bloggers unofficial association's league. Michael McQuain drafted the team and ran it a while. Then, Garth Gregor took over the task to go get a Championship for Maniaxs. Was the mission accomplished?... MANIAXS' Blogger League...

This was my final roster. It was a PPR IDP keeper league
Starting Lineup
QB Peyton Manning RB Adrian Peterson RB Marshawn Lynch WR Chad Johnson WR Hines Ward Flex Chris Chambers TE Chris Cooley K Shayne Graham DL Darnell Dockett LB EJ Henderson DB Ed Reed DP Agelo Crowell
Bench
QB Jason Campbell QB David Carr RB Reggie Bush RB Chester Taylor RB Brian Leonard WR Bobby Engram WR Mark Clayton DL Jason Taylor LB Lance Briggs DB Sean Taylor
The Key was a good draft. Chris Cooley I traded for durring the draft. Darnell Dockett and Agelo Crowell are the only two starters on this roster that I did not Draft. Manning and Chad Johnson were value picks in rounds two and three. on every championship team there is a risk. That risk would be trading up to grab Marshawn Lynch and Adrian Peterson back to back. I missed the next two rounds in order to pull it off. Ironicaly my 1st round pick had not played the final four games. It was Reggie Bush. Briggs was benched because of injury.
My Draft 1) Reggie Bush 2) Peyton Manning 3) Chad Johnson 4)Marshawn Lynch 4a) Adrian Peterson 7) Chris Chambers 8) Chester Taylor (handcuff for Peterson who paid off) 9) Terrell Suggs 9a) Hines Ward 11) Mark Clayton 11a) Jason Taylor 12) Jamarcus Russell 15) Ed Reed 17) Lance Briggs 17a) EJ Henderson 18) Sean Taylor 18a) Bart Scott 19) Garrett Wolfe 21) Shayne Graham 22) David Carr
in Draft Trade... I give Jamarcus Russell 19th round and 22nd Round for Jason Campbell, Chris Cooley and 21st round pick so in reality I did not draft a TE but I did get one. I was targeting Heath Miller when I made the trade. I also got a better this year QB in Campbell for bye weeks and possible injury. I did trade alot in this draft. I did alot of dropping several rounds with a later pick to move up one round with an earlier pick (for example I trade my 10th and 11th for a 9th and 13th pick) It was also an early draft so I was able to capitalize on the Lance Briggs holdout. I also capitalized on Jason Taylor's age.
There was no real turning point as I was 11-3 and clinched the playoffs two weeks before the postseason. I think it was luck though as Division 2 had 4/5 teams competing for playoff spots late into the season. It was touch and go with injuries to my runningbacks so I had to get creative in starting what should have been a 3 back set all season. I made only six drop adds all season which is the kind of consistancy you want on a roster. But learn from me though I waited on Ryan Grant when I could have pursued him because I was not sold on the Packers running situation. I also was not patient enough with my IDPs and dropped some for marginal offensive Free agents Stick to your IDP guns as long as you can. Suggs could have been a solid piece to trade for another DB when Sean Taylor was shot If I had him on my roster. I dropped Suggs for a Bye week Kicker. and he was picked up almost immediately.
DRX I would like to see you post your championship kkeeper team here as well.

Well, our league is a 12 man $100 entry league with 3 divisions, $2 per add/drop until week 14, then $20 per add/drop. Bonus money for weekly high score (I got 2) and winning your division (which I did). Local live draft. Lots of beer consumed. 3' trophy & 70% money to winner plus a big ole traveling trophy with team name and year engraved on it.
My draft - I drafted 7th.
(1) RB Westbrook PHI (2) RB T. Henry DEN (3) QB Hasselbeck SEA (4) WR Owens DAL (5) WR Moss NE (6) DEF Jaguars JAX (7) TE M. Pollard SEA (8) K J. Brown SEA
I don't have access to my pick selection, so I'll just include the rest of my draft picks in no particular order (and on edit, I don't think I drafted my kicker until round 13.... ah well):
TE H. Miller PIT DEF Giants NYG QB Losman BUF RB Davenport PIT RB Jackson GB WR R. Brown PHI WR T. Glenn DAL K Nedney SF
Needless to say, I got a few chuckles and a good bit or ribbing with my #4 and #5 picks, but I had confidence that they'd perform well with their new teams.
Regular Season:
I started off 4-0. The next 6 weeks I was 3-3 but still in the lead in my division. The last 3 weeks before the playoffs I went 1-2 with 2 losses to win my division at 8-5. Not the way I wanted to be playing come playoff time.
I made 17 drop/adds and one trade during the regular season. My key acquisitions were:
E. Graham TB (week 5) D. Garrard JAX (week 6) R. Grant GB (week 8) C. Taylor MIN (week 11)
I picked up Taylor to keep my next week's opponent (who had Peterson) from getting him...
I finished with the most points in my league by 36 over the next nearest guy (who ended up being the #1 seed). I also scored the most points in one week (140) in the history of our league - Moss & Owens both had 4 TD catches & Hasselbeck threw for 3.
Playoffs:
Round 1: I was #2 seed and had a first round bye, but I scored more points (109) than anyone in the league on my bye week.
Round 2: I squeaked out a 55-49 victory to make the Championship.
Championship: I won 73 to 53 over the #4 seed (who smoked the #1 seed the week before 71 to 25) thanks to Hasselbeck, Moss & the JAX Defense. I made sure that I started Grant, as my opponent had Favre in Chicago & I knew he wasn't going to pass for much.
All in all, a great victory and I now get bragging rights for the entire year.
Life is good.
As far as turning point, I'd have to say that picking up Grant was a good one. Lady luck smiled on me a bit in the seeding - If the guy I beat in round 2 had lost his last regular season game, the seeding would have been different and I would not have made it to the Championship game as I would have lost in Round 2.
p.s. - I posted this on another thread, but it's part of my championship year story so I thought I'd include it here as well:

My draft in the keeper league. I picked 2nd overall. I'll write a few thoughts on why I picked whom back then. I'll write about the key waiver wire acquisition later on.
1) Steven Jackson. Didn't want to trade up to get LT because his younger age would give me more stable years at the position. 2)Clinton Portis. Could have gone with a WR, this being a PPR league, but I had to get another top RB before too late. in fact, he was still there in part of other owners fearing another injury laden season. I liked his catching skills in a PPR, it's like having a WR/RB flex. (Wink, wink) 3) Terrell Owens. Time to get serious in this PPR. My targeted player, Reggie Wayne whom I sponsored animatedly all off-season, was just snatched by my Championship game opponent, the Evil Empire. TO is no dummy either and went on to have a great season. 4)Anquan Boldin. Another sponsored guy of mine this past off-season. He produced fairly well considering the missed time because of injury. 5) Donovan McNabb. I usually take another WR in PPRs in thew 5th round, making my format look 2Rb 3WR. However, I tweaked my strategy a little as the other top-tier QBs had been taken. Again, another gamble that paid off, just like Portis. 6) Reggie Brown. I always couple my QB1 with his WR1 when possible and with Brown belonging in the "Magical" 3rd-year WRs category, I jumped at the ball. It turned out to be a waste pick as I forgot to consider that, yes, Brown was the team's #1 WR but, no, he had no experience at that. 7)Calvin Johnson. Another WR, as the Rookie RBs of value (AP & Lynch) had been taken earlier). I figured he'd explode in the Martz system. Not quite. Not this year! Had a couple of decent games when Roy Williams went out for the year, but hard to figure when to start him even then. 8)Michael Turner. The second year in a row that I blow a pick on him, kind of hoping for LT to go down and look like a genius in the process. I also figured he'd move to another zip code next year so I can consider keeping for a low price if he goes into the right situation. 9)Matt Leinart. Nice keeper potential, starter status and a great backup for McNabb on my team. I actually started him over Donovan a few games. I figured I'd use as insurance to McNabb. well, it turned out the other way as he sustained a season-ending injury in week 5. 10)Anthony Thomas. What was I thinking? I thought if Lynch didn't pan out, the Bills would turn to him. It didn't happen even when Lynch struggled out of the gate. He was FA material in a few weeks. 11)Randy McMichael. I thought I had a steal in the 11th round. Honestly, my Kicker at 13th had more value than him this year. A lot of people overlooked him and could have been a steal if it weren't for the team's overall injures that could never get that supposedly potent offense on track. 12)Broncos DST. 2 Pro-bowl CBs in Bailey and Bly' prompted me to draft this unit as a sleeper. What a bust! 13)Robbie Gould. I think I've learned my lesson finally. Every year I move my urge down to draft a surprise kicker a few spots. Still, not enough spots. Next year I'll draft my kicker in the last round. I promise! 14)Brian Leonard. S-Jax's handcuff. He did get his shots when Jackson when down a few weeks with mixed results and the weeks when he had a decent game, I had him on the bench because the prior week he had disappointed. Thank goodness Jackson returned stronger than ever to lead to the Ship. 15) Vikings DST. The real sleeper in the 16th round. After a somewhat slow start, this unit was the main reason for my renaissance. i never benched them again after their bye week. 16)Kenny Irons. Why didn't I think of Kenny Watson? Irons got injured before the start of the season. Kept him on the IR for 2008 considerations keeping an eye on Rudi's 2007 performance for a few weeks. Forget that now! If there is someone deserving to spell Rudi is Watson, not Irons. 17) Zach Miller. My TE2, a rookie with sleeper potential. It didn't quite work, but who cares? It's a 17th rounder we're talking about. It's not like I blew my first overall pick on him. I'll post my relevant transaction later on!

Howdy all! Glad to be here. Great thread.
I won the first year of a very competitive (as in, no one was mathematically eliminated from the championship with 4 weeks to go) 10 team IDP PPR dynasty league with a 12-5 record. If you look at the stats you could say my team really is 4th or 5th best, but the only stat that counts is wins and in that I am #1.
My victory is a great example supporting Dr. X's preaching a balanced roster. My draft wasn't exactly pure genius but darn good enough. (Players still on my squad are in bold.)
(1.8) RB Willie Parker PIT I had just seen my projected first two picks, Reggie Bush and Adrian Peterson, go off the board so I went for the safest bet. Despite the lack of TDs I’m glad I did, considering how many picks before mine were busts.
(2.3) RB Cedric Benson CHI Being a Sooners fan, watched a lot of Benson in college and am still wondering what the heck happened to him. And Brian Westbrook was still on the board. *oof*
(3.8) RB Maurice Jones-Drew JAX Wasn’t planning to go RB-RB-RB, but I’ve learned that when you say to yourself “I can’t believe he’s still on the board,” you take that guy. Darn glad I did.
(4.3) WR Anquan Boldin ARI And then the brief nightmare begins…
(5.8) WR Lee Evans BUF Ugh.
(6.3) QB Vince Young TEN Double ugh.
(7.8) DL Julius Peppers CAR I allowed myself one IDP reach in a single digit round, despite the in hindsight rather sound advice against doing so. Was hoping for DeMeco Ryans but he went right before me. I kinda understand what happened to Cedric Benson actually, he’s too arrogant and thought the NFL would be as easy as running all over Baylor, but I am still totally mystified about what happened to Peppers.
So far things are not going well, with only three out of seven decent picks, but then I pulled this out of my hat:
(8.3) WR Braylon Edwards CLE (9.8) WR Jerricho Cotchery NYJ (10.3) QB Tony Romo DAL (11.8) LB Patrick Willis SF This run really made my season. And to think I took Cotchery as consolation because Mark Clayton went immediately before me. Again, I wasn’t thinking about going for my QB2 (hahahahahaha) so early but I darn near had a stroke when Romo was still there in the 10th.
(12.3) DB Roy Williams DAL Another preseason can’t miss loser. I know you want DBs that tempt opposing offenses to go for the big play but the downside to that is those guys are in danger of losing plays or even their starting jobs. Hate to say that about mah Sooner, but it’s the truth. I finally got sick of his junk and cut him in week 15 for DB Kerry Rhodes.
(13.8) RB Michael Turner SD Dynasty baby.
(14.3) WR Kevin Curtis PHI I sat him his one huge game early but he ended up giving me some solid WR depth in a year where that really came in handy.
(15.8) DL Tamba Hali KC In a 10 team league with a 28 man roster limit (30 including IR), you really don’t have time for IDP prospects. He looked great until Jared Allen came back, and considering his late season surge I’m kinda sorry I cut him in week 12, but I’m trusting that his replacement DL Terrell Suggs is an upgrade.
(16.3) LB Nick Barnett GB When I made this pick I hollered, “you fools!” Ending up with 3 of the top 6 LBs was one huuuuuge factor in my championship.
(17.8) DB Bernard Pollard KC Another slow starter and strong finisher I regret being too impatient over. I cut him in week 4 for DL Amobi Okoye, who himself got cashed in week 6 for RB DeAngelo Williams. I couldn’t believe Williams got cut, especially considering I had made a trade offer including him the previous week. At this point in the season I was realizing I had too many IDP players and cut down to 3 at each position.
(18.3) RB Michael Bush OAK More dynasty baby. I stashed him on the IR week 2 and picked up DB Sean Taylor. I’m proud that Sean Taylor spent time on my roster. I replaced him with mah Sooner WR Mark Clayton, but eventually left him available for next year’s draft in week 17 to take a flyer on WR Sam Hurd.
(19.8) TE Owen Daniels HOU My decision to sacrifice the TE position because I believed in Daniels paid off.
(20.3) WR Dwayne Jarrett CAR Here’s something I learned this year: as long as Pete Carroll lives his offensive skill players will enter the NFL with an unearned thingyy attitude that will keep them off the field. I cut him week 7 for WR Anthony Gonzalez, who ended up starting for me towards the end of the season.
(21.8) DB Donte Whitner BUF Another player I love who didn’t make the cut in my week 6 IDP purge and was replaced by RB Selvin Young. Less than 24 hours later, the news of Travis Henry’s non-suspension broke. Pure genius.
(22.3) DL Charles Grant NO Another disappointment who was replaced week 4 by DL Mario Williams. As you can tell by now, I worked the waiver wire hard all year and in this case it paid off big time.
(23.8) LB EJ Henderson MIN Boo-ya!
(24.3) WR Steve Smith NYG Had placed him on IR week 2 and got DB LaRon Landry. I finally got tired of his lame injury excuses week 14, gave Benson his IR spot and cut him outright for TE Todd Heap because I wanted 2 TEs going into next year, because I had cut…
(25.8) TE Eric Johnson NO … in week 12 to make room for DL Michael Strahan in a desperate “win now” move. That didn’t work out as planned, so week 16 I took a flyer on RB Lorenzo Booker for next year.
(26.3) DB Madieu Williams CIN Proof that solid IDP options are still available in the last rounds of your draft.
(27.8) QB Daunte Culpepper OAK The next to last pick is where you can take your biggest gamble, and while I still love Daunte it didn’t break my heart to replace him with QB Kellen Clemens in week 3.
(28.3) K Jason Elam DEN Last round, kicker time. I liked Elam because he had an early bye in week 4, just the right time to ride the leg of K Nick Folk the rest of the season (except his bye week 9 where I got away with swapping him out for Phil Dawson).
I'm feeling pretty good about defending my championship next year.

By Garth Gregor. This year a bunch of fantasy football writers got together to form the First Fantasy League Annual Blogger(FLAB). This was a 12 team Yahoo seasonal league with standard settings, 6 team playoff, and Points Per Reception. We sent one of our newer Maniaxs writers into the draft and came away with the following: Gart Gregor in: How the "Blogger" was Won...
